Answer to December 3, 2001 Problem

The Factorial Problem

For all positive integers n, the symbol n! denotes the product of the first n positive integers. In other words, 4! = 4x3x2x1 = 24.

Find the value of n for which
(3!)(5!)(7!) = n!

Solution: The answer is 10.
Notice that (3!)(5!) = (6)(120) = 720 = 8*9*10.
then, (7!)(3!)(5!) = (7!)(8*9*10) = 10!
and n = 10.
