I always used one of the following tricky problems to introduce the concept of geometric sequences.
I posed the the problem to my students and then had them each write down a guess (I did not allow
any calculators to be used -- I wanted them to go with their intuition!)
How many snaps?
Salary Problem (Double each day)
Tearing Paper in Half
Homework Problem (Double each day)
