Welcome to the Journey across America. You are about to embark on a trip through the United Sates.   Your goal is to pass through all the states and answer questions in each state as you go.   You must try to plan your journey so that you do not pass through a state a second time.   If you do, the game ends.

The computer will choose a random state in which you will start.   You will be told which directions you may travel.   There are eight directions: North, South, East, West, Northeast, Nortwest, Southeast, and Southwest.   You may use those words or just the abbreviations N, S, E, W, NE, NW, SE, and SW.   The only other commands that you can use in the game are: SAVE (to save the current game), LOAD (to load a previously saved game), SCORE (to see the score of your current game), HIGH (to view the high scores of all games that have been played on your computer), QUIT (to exit the current game), and HELP (to view these 22 commands).

A perfect score is 100.   You receive one point for each state that you visit and one point for each question that you answer correctly.   It would be a good idea to have a map of the U.S. in front of you as you play.   Good luck on your travels!   In order to receive credit for this problem of the month, you must score at least 70 points.

The Journey Across America Game can only be run on PCs.   When you click below to download the file, choose the SAVE AS option.   This allows you to put the file in the folder that you select.   You will probably be cautioned about the safety of the file because it is new and because it is an .EXE file.   I assure you that the program is safe.

Click here or on the tab above to download the States Trivia program to your computer.

Once the file is downloaded to your computer, you may run it to play the game.

If you would like to have your name added to the list of Problem Solvers, please send an email to: David Pleacher (MATHPAGE@GMAIL.COM) with the following information:

Your name:
Your town and state (or country)
Attach the two files HSTRIVIA.DAT and STATES.DAT which are located in the same
folder or directory as the TRIVIA.EXE game (This is to verify your score).

If you are the first to completely solve the game (with 100 points), you will receive a $25 prize, and your name will appear at the top of the list of trivia experts!
