Jewel Cave National Monument contains Jewel Cave, currently the second longest cave in the world (Mammoth Cave is the longest and Wind Cave is the 4th longest).   Jewel Cave contains just over 151 miles of mapped passageways.   It is located approximately 13 miles west of the town of Custer in South Dakota's Black Hills.   It was discovered in 1900 and became a national monument in 1908.

Jewel Cave offers four different tours of the caves -- the Discovery Tour, the Scenic Tour, the Lantern Tour, and the Spelunking Tour.   To qualify for the Spelunking Tour, you must be able to crawl through an 8.5" x 24" opening in a concrete block.   Pops didn't make it!

Gram and Pops visited here in September 2010.
