Lava Beds National Monument is a diverse park located in northern California.   In the northeast corner of the park, there is the Petroglyph section; in the north central part, there is a battlefield and Captain Jack's stronghold; in the western part of the park, there are lava fields; and in the southern part of the park, there are lava tubes.

The most striking feature in Lava Beds is the lava tube cave.   Over 300 such caves are located in the park.   There is a Cave Loop Road with 24 lava tube caves to explore, and one cave (Mushpot Cave) is lighted.   A flashlight and hard hat are available for free from the Visitor's Center.

Gram and Pops visited here in August 2010.
