The student will review the graphs of the inverse trig functions. 1. Why do we always study inverse functions? The inverse of any function is important – it provides a way to "get back." The derivatives of the inverse trig functions lead to useful integration formulas. 2. How do you form the inverse of a function? Example: y = 3x +2. 3. What is meant by arcsin(1)? It is the angle (or arc) whose sine is equal to 1. 4. Graph the six inverse trig functions. a. Start with y = sin(x) and its graph. b. Solve for the inverse function. c. Graph the inverse function and discuss its domain and range. d. Repeat for other functions. 5. Hand out graphs of the inverse trig functions. 6. Assignment: p. 63 (35, 37, 38, 39, 41, 48) |
