The College Student Letter Home



Solve the following cryptogram from a college student to his parents. You must transpose the letters into digits to make the corresponding addition problem add up correctly.

Each letter represents the same numeral each time it occurs, and a different numeral from every other letter.

$ SE.ND + MO.RE ---------- MON.EY




Solution to the Problem:

This is one of the most famous cryptarithms, and was first published by Henry Dudeney, a British puzzlist, in 1924.
