Unable to sell a hat for $20, a haberdasher lowered the price to $8.
It still did not sell, so he cut the price again to $3.20, and
finally to $1.28.
Assuming that he followed a system,
can you predict what his next markdown will be?

Solution to the Problem:
The next price would be 51 cents.First, you must establish that each mark-down is 2/5 of the former price.
20 x = 8, so x = 8/20 or 2/5 (or 40%).
8 x = 3.20, so x = .40 or 2/5.
3.20 x = 1.28, so x = .4 or 2/5
Therefore, the next price would be 1.28 x .4 = .512 or 51 cents.
