Since there are over 300 days of sunshine in Colorado, my son-in-law rigged up a solar-powered "water heater" for his kiddie pool
in his backyard. He used 250 feet of 1/2 inch diameter hose filled with water (see photos below).
How many gallons of water are being heated?
Solution to the Problem:
The answer is 2.55 gallons of water.
Think of the rolled up hose as a cylinder 250' long with a diameter of 1/2".
Then use the formula for the Volume of a cylinder to solve.
You must covert 250 feet to inches by multiplying by 12.
Then you must use the conversion formula to convert cubic inches to gallons of water.
