Crater Lake National Park

Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the United States at 1,943 feet, and the seventh deepest in the world.   It holds 4.9 trillion gallons of water, and the water is a very deep blue in color.

The lake rests in the remains of a volcano called Mount Mazama that erupted and collapsed into itself.   Wizard Island and the Phantom Ship are islands in the lake that were formed by eruptions that occured after the collapse of Mount Mazama.

There is a 33 mile drive around the rim of Crater Lake.   There are numerous trails to hike, including Cleetwood Cove Trail that leads down to the lake, where you can take a boat ride to Wizard Island.
