Great Sand Dunes National Park has the tallest dunes in North America. When you get to the top of one dune, you
find that that there are several more to climb that were hidden behind the first one!
Water is the lifeblood of the Great Sand Dunes system. Streams begin as mountain snowfields, melting then flowing
through alpine lakes, forests, dunes, grasslands, and lush wetlands. We visited here in June when there was a creek that
had to be crossed to get to the dunes, but we were told that it would be dried up by August.
Gram and Pops visited here in June 2007 and then visited with their son Michael in June 2021.
