Mammoth Cave National Park

Mammoth Cave National Park

Mammoth Cave is the longest cave in the world, over twice as long as any other known cave.   It has over 365 miles of surveyed passageways, and geologists think there could be 600 miles of yet undiscovered passageways.

Mammoth Cave National Park has over 60 miles of hiking trails above ground.   There are deer and wild turkeys, and the Green River runs through the middle of the park.

As an attraction, Mammoth Cave predates all national parks.   It was publicized in the War of 1812 and became an attraction by 1816.   Mammoth Cave was authorized as a national park in 1926.

Pops visited here in September 2009 with his brother John.   They took the Frozen Niagara tour and went in the backdoor to the cave.
