Muir Woods National Monument is located 12 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge. John Muir called
the park "the best tree-lover's monument that could possible be found in all the forests of the world."
It is a remnant of the ancient coast redwood forests that were prevalent in northern California before the 1800s.
There is a visitor center, a gift shop, and a self-guiding nature trail. It is absolutely gorgeous -- it is like a rain-forest.
Gram and Pops visited here in August 2011.
