Scotts Bluff was a monument to the pioneers heading west. Pioneers knew that 1/3 of the trail
lay behind them. The Oregon Trail, the California Trail, the Mormon Trail, and the Pony Express Trail
all came through Mitchell Pass just south of Scotts Bluff.
There is a short trail from the visitors center where there is a display of the four types of wagons
used on the overland trails. You can reach the top of the bluff by car or by hiking.
At the top, there is a South Overlook Trail, a North Overlook Trail, and the Saddle Rock Trail that winds
down to the visitors center. The latter is 1.6 miles long and goes through a tunnel.
Gram and Pops visited here in July 2011.
