Walnut Canyon National Monument is home to several cliff dwellings that were built around 1100 AD and were occupied
for about 100 years. The park has two paved foot trails which begin at the Visitor Center. The Island
Trail is a .9 mile long loop trail that passes by 25 of the cliff dwelling rooms. This trail is very steep and
requires you to climb 240 steps back to the canyon rim. The Rim Trail is .7 miles long and has a good view of
the canyon and of several ruins of rim top structures.
Gram and Pops visited here in April 2011.
