I.   What is the total mileage for this trip?
        2,355 miles

II.   If you averaged 50 mph over the entire trip, how long would it take you to drive?
        47 hours, 6 minutes

III.   If your car gets 28 miles to the gallon,
how many gallons of gasoline would you need for the trip?     84.11 gallons
At $3.60 per gallon, how much would the trip cost you?     $302.79

IV.   If your car gets 51 miles to the gallon,
how many gallons of gasoline would you need for the trip?     46.18 gallons
At $3.60 per gallon, how much would the trip cost you?     $166.24

V.   How much more would the trip cost you if you averaged 70 mph instead of 50 mph?
Use 28 mpg and $3.60 per gallon and use AAA President Tony DeNovellis’ rule of
thumb found in the May/Jun 2012 issue of Encompass Magazine.
Tony DeNovellis’ advice was to Slow down.   For most vehicles, fuel economy drops off
significantly when traveling more than 60 miles per hour.
As a rule of thumb, you can assume that every 5 mph you drive over 60 mph is like paying an
        additional 20 cents per gallon.
Since 70 mph is 10 mph over 60 mph, you would pay an additional 40 cents per gallon.
The trip would cost you $4.00 per gallon for the 84.11 gallons used for a total of $336.44.
So, it would cost you $33.65 more because you averaged 70 mph instead of 50 or 60 mph.
