Lesson #57
Derivatives of the
6 Inverse Trig Functions

Quote of the Day:
"Calculus is the most powerful weapon of thought yet devised by the wit of man." -- W. B. Smith

Objectives:
The student will derive the six derivative formulas for the inverse trigonometric functions.

The student will apply the derivative formulas for the six inverse trigonometric functions to problems.

1. Collect homework.

2. How would you find the derivative of y = Arcsin(x) ?

Write it in terms of something you know
(Hint: write it in terms of sin(x))

3. In a similar fashion, develop the formulas for the derivatives of the other 5 inverse trig functions:

4. Examples:

5. Assignment:
p. 254 (33, 35, 37, 39, 40, 41, 42, 51, 60, 67)
